LADIES PAIRS FINAL 2022/23.
It was another beautiful sunny & still day on Sunday 6/11/22 when the final of the ladies pairs between Di Star, Margaret Grossbard & Karen Gordon, Heather Hayes was played.
The game had been delayed for a week because Heather & Pam Colley had competed in the 60 + State Pairs at Rosebud Beach Club.
The game turned out to be one of a very high standard over the nearly 4 hours it took to complete.
It really was a carbon copy of the men’s Pairs Final played the week before.
After 6 ends the score was locked at 6 All& this stayed the same for at least the next 7 ends with only 1 or 2 shots between the 2 competing teams. Many excellent shots were played by all 4 players noting that there was a contrast between the styles of play.
H&K looked to make it long ends whilst Di& M tended to bowl to mid or 3/4 length ends.
At the 14th end the score was 11 all & the game was a real toss up who would win.
On end 15 the game changed dramatically as K& H scored a 6.
Not to be outdone Di & M won back 3 shots on the 16th end following great shots from both teams. H& K then scored 1 shot on the 17th making the score 18/14.
One after another both teams put down great bowls until with her very last bowl Margaret needing 5 shots to win played a magnificent bowl which picked up the jack & took it towards a nest of their bowls. Her shot picked up 3 shots narrowly missing the required target & thus K&H won the game 18/17.
President John Trewin then presented the prizes to the competing teams & thanked the players for a wonderful game & to the 40 members for attending the game.
John & Alice Mac then provided a BBQ lunch to all members there which was greatly appreciated.
We were indeed fortunate to witness 2 great games of bowls played in ideal conditions & I would suggest that if possible members should endeavour to attend the finals of any upcoming championship games as we can learn from the skills & tactics displayed by our fellow members.
